Master of Education (MEd) – On Campus, 2nd year
February 14, 2023
Tell us a little about yourself.
Let me start by saying that it is an honour to get into this program on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Musqueam people. Before enrolling in this program, I worked as a high school physics teacher for ten years and was a mother of a four-year-old at the same time. Raising my child made me fascinated by how babies grow and develop. I saw in babies the inner drive and abilities of growth that gradually wears off in our educational system as they grow older.
Why did you decide to pursue further education in ECE?
I wanted to do something, to change something, and to preserve and give space to the early inner strength of children to grow. So, I resigned to apply for the program in hopes of learning more and understanding in depth about the knowledge related with child growth and development.
What I learned in this program was not exactly what I had expected, but it provides me with an unexpectedly broader, critical perspective on Early Childhood Education. It has opened my eyes to see children and children’s education from various perspectives, which has transformed me from a follower of mainstream educational philosophy to an educator with the ability to think critically and differently.
