Apply for ECE Certification

Once students have successfully completed the program requirements for our BC ECE Assistant Certificate or BC ECE Basic Certificate programs, they are eligible to apply for certification as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) or ECE Assistant to the BC ECE Registry in the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

ECE Assistant

To apply for initial certification as an ECE Assistant, submit the ECE Assistant application/renewal form together with all supporting documentation to the BC ECE Registry in the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

To renew your certification as an ECE Assistant, submit the ECE Assistant application/renewal form available from the BC ECE Registry website along with all supporting documentation.

Note: All applicants who currently hold any one of the following certificates: Early Childhood Educator Assistant, Early Childhood Educator, Infant and Toddler Educator and/or Special Needs Educator, are required to have 400 hours of related work experience within the field of Early Childhood to renew.

Early Childhood Educator (ECE)

Applicants who have not yet accumulated 500 hours of work experience under the supervision of a Canadian-certified ECE can apply for an initial one-year Certificate which can be renewed only once before the certificate expiration date. Please note, practicum hours do NOT count towards the 500 hours.

To apply for certification as an Early Childhood Educator without 500 hours of supervised work experience, submit the Early Childhood Educator One Year Certificate form available from the BC ECE Registry website along with all supporting documentation.

To apply for certification as an Early Childhood Educator with 500 hours of work experience under the supervision of a Canadian-certified ECE, submit the Early Childhood Educator 5 Year Certificate form available from the BC ECE Registry website along with all supporting documentation. Please note: Due to the current closure of Enrolment Services, paper transcripts are not available at this time. However, UBC is offering PDF transcripts to be sent to an email destination of your choosing.
