Master of Education (MEd) – Online Cohort
I am an Indigenous educational leader in my home community of the Kikino Metis Settlement. My interests include the history, culture, and languages of the Metis Settlements of Alberta, education, and early learning. I believe in the connection between health and education and have undertaken many teacher studies with my school team to identify needed direction. As a nine-year educator, my academic achievements include a Bachelor of Education and a Post-Bachelorette in Inclusive Ed. Currently, my role is Inclusive education lead in my school where student and parent advocacy guide programming within our building. I support teacher development of Individual Program Plans which means I spend a lot of time teaching teachers.
My experiences to date have prompted me to pursue further education in Early Childhood Education as that is where the majority of my professional experience lies and I gain a lot of professional satisfaction when we know we got it right for a child. I enjoy learning and being part of a team working together for common goals. Furthering my education will broaden my professional contacts and open doors for me to expand my professional teaching experiences to other communities.
My experiences at UBC have so far been positive. I appreciate the opportunities to learn virtually as I do need to keep working while I continue post-secondary education with a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education. The learning process is good and the articles have been very interesting as I have been able to share a few of them with colleagues.
My current research interests include Indigenous education, early learning, family engagement in inclusive education program development, and teacher learning needs to support early learning.
