Master of Education (MEd) – Online Cohort
Hello! My name is Desiree Klause, and I am thrilled to be a student in the M.Ed Early Childhood Education Online Professional Cohort. My passions are theatre, children, research, teaching, and spending time with my husband, son, and daughter. I have always planned to further my education and am excited to be at a stage in my life where I can do so. The flexibility of the online cohort allows me to work at my own pace while teaching Early Learning and Child Care at Northwestern Polytechnic in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
I have a passion for arts and culture that is integral to how I work in the field of education. I believe teaching is an artistic expression in which I am both the participant and observer. My job is to design work that will allow students to process, explore and challenge concepts that promote innovative and realistic situations. My interests are in theatre and dramatic play, specifically how it develops social emotional skills in children. I believe each child is a unique individual full of unlimited potential. Early Childhood Education offers a special opportunity to make a real difference to the overall development of a child. Play is essential to this process, and as Magda Gerber stated, “Let the child be the scriptwriter, the director and the actor in his own play.”
Ultimately, my goal for this program is to expand my knowledge in the context of emerging pedagogy that supports my current career. In the long -term, I hope to continue to grow professionally and make a lasting impact in the field of Early Childhood Education. I look forward to my journey at the University of British Columbia.
