Master of Education (MEd) – Online Cohort, 1st year
February 14, 2023
Tell us a little about yourself.
I grew up in the small hamlet of Millarville, Alberta and now live in Calgary. I acknowledge that I live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.
I completed my Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education at Mount Royal University in 2016. This is my 7th year teaching at my current school, Prairie Waters Elementary. We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, implementing the Primary Years Programme.
In my free time I love to read, last year I read 63 novels! I also teach Barre fitness classes twice a week and am getting into running. I love to cook and am always experimenting in the kitchen!
What are your goals for this program?
My goals for this program are to broaden my knowledge in early childhood development and education. Upon graduation from UBC, I’d like to pursue a learning specialist role within my school division, working specifically with preschool and kindergarten students and families. I would also be open to learning more about leadership and pursuing an administrative role within our school division.
I am passionate about play-based learning and children’s mental health. I taught Grade 4 for three years before making the welcomed transition to kindergarten. Kindergarten is my happy place – I love working with and learning from our youngest students!
