Master of Education (MEd) – Online Cohort
I was born and raised in Vietnam, a beautiful country in Southeast Asia. I’m now living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on Treaty 6 Territory and the homeland of the Métis Nation. We pay our respect to the original caretakers of this land, the Cree, Dakota, Nakota, Dene, and Saulteaux, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. I graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Education from Dalat University in 2010 and spent six years teaching students of different age groups in my hometown before moving to Canada in May 2017. I have been working in the early childhood sector for about seven years in different roles, including an early childhood educator, an on-floor supervisor, and currently as a pedagogical leader.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, knitting, crocheting, gardening, baking, and taking road trips with my two children and my husband.
This M.Ed. program is a perfect fit for me, as I can continue working full-time while studying. The experience I have obtained at UBC has exceeded all of my expectations. I am so excited to start this new chapter of my life, and I am so grateful to be able to further my learning from our very incredibly supportive and knowledgeable instructors and classmates.
Pursuing a master’s degree in early childhood education at the University of British Columbia sets another big milestone in my academic and professional life. As a pedagogical leader of a non-profit early learning and childcare center, I want to develop my research skills and expand my understanding of young children’s social and emotional development to better assist their holistic development. Since there are still many barriers to diversity and inclusion in early childhood settings, I believe that this program will help me gain a deeper understanding of the challenges encountered in these settings and enable me to expand my knowledge and work on various techniques to gradually remove these obstacles and to support children with diverse abilities, cultural backgrounds, national origins, indigenous heritages, religions, and languages to have equal access to early learning education. The program allows me to have many more opportunities to explore further cultural and social issues such as inclusion, diversity, and social justice. In addition, I believe that this graduate program will equip me with extensive knowledge of outdoor early childhood education pedagogy, which I am very passionate about.
