Master of Education (MEd) – Online Cohort
I acknowledge that I live and work in the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani and Kainai Nations; the Stoney-Nakoda, including the Chiniki, Bearspaw and and Goodstoney First Nations; and the Tsuut’ina Nation. This is also homeland to the historic Northwest Métis and to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government Nose Hill Métis District 5 and Elbow Métis District 6.
Having graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary in 1991, I have taught with the Calgary Board of Education for 33 years. I am currently teaching kindergarten in an amazing school in the city’s southeast, which was opened three years ago. I have been married for 27 years and I have two grown children, one of whom has just started an undergraduate program at a local university.
Achieving a Master’s degree has been a lifelong dream. I chose the online cohort at UBC so that I could continue working full time in Calgary. I was drawn to the Early Childhood Education program as I am passionate about early learning and supporting our youngest learners and their families. The idea of being in a small cohort appealed to me as I love being part of a supportive team. My many varied teaching experiences over the last three decades have taught me the importance of teamwork, listening and compassion towards colleagues.
After graduation, I am interested in pursuing a role as an early learning strategist or to work at a university supporting practicum students as they embark on their student teaching experiences.
