Master of Education (MEd) – Online Cohort, 2nd year

April 6, 2021

Tell us about your experience in this program so far.

I want to start with my gratitude to all of the students and professors throughout the master’s coursework. The course always held space for important discussions that further inspired, motivated, which enriched our learning. The program opened the door to National and International collaborations with educators allowing for many of our academic and professional experiences in the classrooms, policy frameworks, and research to come together to develop new perspectives in ECE. I recommend the program to educators, researchers, and policymakers in early learning because of the current evolving topics and fundamental history of early childhood education that is embedded throughout the program which equips the graduates for great future success in our sector.

Why did you decide to pursue further education in Early Childhood Education?

I have always worked towards alternative ethical and political discourses alongside Indigenous children and families in early childhood education. Over the years, I have felt many conflicts in education, both personally and professionally. I enrolled in the MEd with an open heart to bridge my lived experiences with the new knowledge while engaging in research in my professional role and expanding my commitment to supporting Indigenous ECEs.

Why did you decide to pursue an education at UBC?

The option to gain a MEd in ECE and the delivery format online allowed for me to continue to work, raise my family and study without relocating.

What advice would you have for new grad students and those considering pursuing education in ECE?

I think it is an inspiring time in the sector of early learning within Canada as it is transforming with many challenging and successful revolutions which impact the role of Early Childhood Educators and the public.

What do you love most about the field of Early Childhood Education?

What I love most about ECE is the passion and commitment the educators bring to the sector. Early Childhood Education holds many opportunities for all educators to learn, teach, and collaborate with children and families in Canada that uplifts and supports our future generations and being a part of this legacy is an honour.
