Lori Jones

Master of Education (MEd) – Online Cohort

My name is Lori Jones. I am currently living on Treaty 7 land in Calgary, Alberta with my husband and our dog. I grew up in Port Alice and completed my Bachelor of Education degree from UBC in 2013. For the past nine years I have been teaching Grades 1 and 2 in Calgary. I am passionate about inclusive education and find it deeply fulfilling to create a classroom community where all students feel supported, safe, and represented.

While Calgary has become my home, Vancouver and Vancouver Island hold a special place in my heart. My experiences living in British Columbia sparked a love of being outdoors and learning from the land, which continues to shape my teaching practice today. Providing frequent opportunities for land-based learning throughout all seasons has allowed me to witness the powerful impact that time outdoors has on my students’ wellbeing and sense of belonging.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to return to UBC to further my education. It has been a unique experience so far, especially being in an online cohort. I am enjoying learning alongside my peers and connecting virtually. I am a strong believer in being a lifelong learner, and am eager to develop my expertise in early childhood education. In particular, I am looking forward to exploring inclusive education while also developing my ability to advocate for the resources and support that teachers need to make inclusion meaningful and sustainable.
