Master of Education (MEd) – Online Cohort
February 14, 2023
Tell us about yourself and your experience at UBC so far.
I am very excited to be in this program! I acknowledge that I am working, studying, living, and playing on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
I was born and raised in Shanghai, China before moving to Canada back in 2011. I came to Vancouver, Canada with my family and embarked on a new chapter in my life. I completed my Bachelor of Early Childhood Care and Education at Capilano University in 2019 and started working full-time after my graduation from the program.
I first started in the 3-5 program for two years, before moving to the infant program over a year ago. I have been enjoying it since!
Why did you decide to pursue further education in ECE?
I am passionate about place-based learning and thinking more deeply about the everyday pedagogical work we do as educators. Having both educational experiences in China and Canada, I was able to reflect on these issues. While completing a project at the end of my B.Ed in ECCE, I was intrigued by the localization and significance of children’s learning in their environment, which gave them a sense of belonging and identity.
