Master of Education (MEd) – Online Cohort
I acknowledge that the land I live on is the unceded territory of the Wendat, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee Peoples. My settler home rests alongside the St. Lawrence River, where I have grown from childhood. I am committed to caring for this land and water that sustains my family.
I am an early childhood education and care professional in Ontario. My personal and professional experiences in early childhood settings in Shanghai, China, and Ontario, Canada, inform my professional practice, advocacy, and academic interests. My evolving role as a mother has also profoundly influenced my positioning as a practitioner/carer/researcher/student/advocate.
My sometimes tense positioning has encouraged me to continuously question and rethink my approach to early childhood education and care within the Canadian setting. Throughout the MEd, my significant and evolving focus has been advocacy for and uplifting the Canadian early childhood workforce. The predominantly female workforce in Ontario frequently faces challenges like undervaluation, disparaging pay and inadequate working conditions. Consequently, through daily conversations, social media challenges and academic writing, I have focused on advocating for better working conditions and fair compensation while honouring the highly gendered and essential role of care and emotional labour in the field. I am committed to continuing my education and challenging the taken-for-granted truths in our sector.
