Master of Arts (MA) – On campus
I’m currently embarking on my first year in pursuit of a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education. Last December, I completed my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education, and I’m genuinely excited to be back for more studies. I am grateful for my privilege to study and live in the studying on this land. Being on this campus offers me a fantastic experience as I can explore various libraries and buildings. During my initial weeks as an MA student, I’ve enjoyed the chance to delve into different research topics and engage with various concepts.
I’ve been working part-time in early childhood education for four years. Simultaneously, I embarked on a journey by establishing a Chinese Music Instrument School in BC. Through my study at UBC, I want to see how I can connect to my Chinese background in art and work with the question of how we can help newcomers and immigrant children through music and art-based education to build a strong community. Also, I’m really looking forward to making a positive impact in this field by crafting innovative curricula and fostering a better environment for children. My ultimate goal is to establish my own childcare center with a unique approach that bridges modern pedagogy and traditional education. Instead of simply discarding traditional educational concepts, my hands-on experiences have prompted me to explore how we can coexist harmoniously with children, educators, and families, nonhuman, within the community. I aim to blend these experiences with my academic journey during my MA at UBC, creating an environment where children, educators, and families can thrive and collaborate in shaping the curriculum.
Outside of my work and music, I enjoy hiking in Coquitlam’s parks, playing the Chinese Zither, and reading books by authors like Richard Wagamese, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Mitch Albom. I’m also a traveller at heart, always ready to explore new places.
